The team at Our Colchester Business Improvement District (BID) have been working to bring a town-wide Gift Card programme to Colchester.
This is the first town-wide gift card in Essex and is set to lock in more spend to support high street and independent shops recover from the negative effects of the pandemic.
The Colchester Gift Card will be the perfect gift for those who are tricky to buy for and provide a great choice for them to find the perfect gift for themselves.
BID Manager Sam Good says "We are delighted to be bringing The Colchester Gift Card to town. It's a great way to show your support for local businesses and the town centre. We have been working hard to make sure that the users of the Colchester Gift Card can get a great range of businesses on board to give everyone the greatest choice.
By buying a Colchester Gift Card you are telling businesses and the people working there that you support the high street and the Colchester Community. It’s also a great option to gift for those who are hard to buy for or as a thank you."
Our Colchester BIDs aim is to combat the negative effects of the pandemic and help drive recovery for all businesses in the town centre. The gift card industry is currently worth £7 billion and will lock in spend to the town centre.
Colchester’s new gift card is part of the award winning Town and City Gift Card programme from fintech Miconex. Managing director of Miconex Colin Munro said the Colchester Gift Card will be beneficial for both consumers and businesses alike:
“One of the positives from the pandemic is that people are more inclined to shop locally, and gift cards play a big role in that. A quarter of those buying a gift card for someone else in June 2021 did so to support local businesses or the local high street. And it’s a trend that continues to build. The Colchester Gift Card is a prepaid MasterCard that can be spent right across Colchester, making it a secure, attractive way to shop and gift. There are no costs for businesses to accept the Colchester Gift Card as payment, and it’s as easy to accept as any card payment.”
The gift card will be available to buy online from the beginning of August and it can be loaded with as little as £5.
Businesses can still sign up to accept the gift card once it has launched so customers can expect to see new businesses available for them to use.
